Hello there, my name is Peter Herrera, but you can call me Pete. I’m a single dad currently living in the greatest city in the world, New York City. There’s nothing more important to me than being able to provide for my son, and thankfully, my knowledge and experience in programming has helped me to do just that. It goes without saying that at this particular point in my life, I couldn’t be happier.
I first got into programming in high school, where I created my first program ever using Visual Basic. When ran, it displayed the word “Hello.” Fortunately, since then my expertise and scope has advanced considerably. Here’s a brief rundown of what languages I am experienced in.
The C-based family of programming languages (C, C++, and C#) are what I have invested a majority of my time in learning and mastering. The reason is quite simple – the C-based languages afford the most power and versatility out of all other programming languages. But with power comes a steeper learning curve. C-based languages (except for maybe C#) are extensive and difficult to navigate. However, throughout my years of constant study and practice, I’ve gained a very solid understanding of the language and all of its intricacies.
Just behind the C-based family comes Java and PHP. Like the C-based family of languages, Java allows for the creation of desktop applications and is modeled closely to the C-syntax. It’s a powerful set of language that remains very portable. Many web-based programs are ran off of Java, which is why I made it a top priority after the C family.
PHP became a language of interest of mine shortly after I began dabbling in website creation and functionality. Needless to say, if you want a site with maximum functionality and compatibility, PHP is a must to learn. It’s most powerful aspect is its ability to be used in conjunction with HTML, allowing you to execute extensive tasks with relative ease. I’ve studied PHP for over 5 years now, and I can now navigate its landscape with complete confidence.
In addition to the major programming languages I mentioned above, I’m also an avid gamer and game creation hobbyist. While I’m not creating games of the quality and caliber you see on PlayStation and Xbox consoles (not even close), I have put together a few simple games just for fun; mainly NES-style scrolling games and “shoot ‘em ups.” Partaking in this hobby has allowed me to gain even more programming experience with C# and C++, and also with a neat little language called Python.
That pretty much sums upthe brief history of my various programming experience. I hope what you’ve read helps you not only learn a little bit about me, but also open your eyes to how I can be of assistance to you. After all, it’s difficult to make it in the game of life without a little assistance from time to time.
